Drelinger Headjoint

Post by hunter »

Can someone give me the history of the Drelinger headjoints (based on personal use, not info from the Drelinger website). I am interested in trying different headjoints, but need some recommendations. I live in Raleigh, NC and would like to be able to drive someplace within North Carolina to try different headjoints.

Hi,
My daughter plays on Drelinger Max headjoint. Previously she played on the Yamaha CY headjoint. The Drelinger really opened up her sound and created a much warmer sound. It took some adjusting to not having to use as much air as she previously used...it is much easier blowing.

How did you select the headjoint? Did you go to New York to the Drelinger location? Did you have your daughter test different headjoints?

We were not shopping for a headjoint, my daughter had just gotten a new flute that she was happy with. Her teacher was selling her Drelinger and my daughter tried it just for kicks. There was a real difference in the sound and it made her flute just sing compared to headjoint that came on her Yamaha. So she only compared the 2 headjoints.

If you are shopping for headjoints I would definitely consider trying a Drelinger. I have also heard good things about Lafin's.

From what I've read it seems the headjoint is the single most important part of the flute for tone/sound quality. Based on what I've read again it seems to get the most bang for your buck you would buy a decent flute body (not necessarily expensive) and spend your big money on a good headjoint? I am not sure all are equally compatable with the different flute bodies but that should be fairly easy to find out.
