Damsaged pad - temporary fix?

Hi,

I have a Yamaha intermediate flute that has a damaged pad. It's the one for G# on the left hand pinky.
The pad surface has been scratched and must be leaking. The result is that I can't sound the low D much, and low C, not at all.
I tried to put some cork grease on the scratched part of the pad thinking this may seal it temporarily, but this doesn't work.

There are no technicians nearby to fix this that I know of, so I would like to know of this can be fixed temporarily
until I can bring my flute to a tech elsewhere.

As an emergency and temporary stop-gap, you can try wrapping the pad and key with thin plastic cling wrap. Some brands are more "clingy" than others so try to find a brand that will cling to the key and stay in place. Cut a piece about 2-3 inches square and place it between the pad and tone hole then wrap it around the key. Be sure that the cling wrap is very flat with no wrinkles over the actual pad surface. This may or may not help, but you won't harm your flute by trying and your repair technician (when you find one) will thank you for that.

Where are you located? Several of the Fluteland board participants (myself included) are flute technicians and know flute technicians in many areas. We may be able to help you find a tech close to you.

Thanks for the great tip. Since then, I have had my flute fixed by Twigg Music Shop in Quebec city, 3 hours drive away.
They are very good and I have had them look at other instruments I also own.
