Hehe...I bet half of us on this board weren't even born yet in 1981! No worries though-- you're so not old at all!
Haha, this one is my favorite:

Ha, yeah, thanks! Occasionally, there are funny comments from students. Like, "You were alive in the '70s ?!? ". The sixth-grader who had never heard The Pink Panther. She's now a sophomore studying the Hindemith Sonata, with which (of course) she was also unfamiliar. Or, this week, when perusing the book containing our All-State audition etudes, in which I always record the year an etude was used, a student remarked, "That was the year before I was born!". I replied, "Shut up. That was the year of my first audition." Oh, well...people routinely mistake me for a student, college or even (?) high school. Now, that's just a bit ridiculous! No wrinkles doesn't mean one looks like a teen! Doesn't say much about the appearance of today's young girls, now, does it? :? All in all, though, I suppose I'm not a fossil or anything!

I started playing in Grade 5, when I was ten. I was horrible at it for a long time, but then I switched to a school out of the city, and they didn't begin band lessons until Grade 7, when I picked up flute again. At that school, we had an amazing teacher, so we learned everything pretty quickly! In the middle of Grade 8, I moved back to the city, and quit altogether because my class was too slow.

But, I've become interested in it again, and my mom gave in and bought me a flute for Christmas. So now, without being in any music classes at all, I'm re-teaching myself!

When did I start playing? What time is it?

I got my flute on Dec 18th, and have been practicing ever since. I'm too new to even be a beginner, but the things I learned over thirty years ago seem to have stayed somewhere in my brain, waiting to be retrieved.
