For some reason, forums are still marked "new" after I''ve read them.
Eventually, they do get marked, but it seems almost random as to when. Is there
something I''m doing wrong, is there a bug, or what?

The forums will be marked "new" until you have read them and then come
back the next time. They remain marked "new" in your first visit, it is just the
way the board is setup.
