Post by band_geek08 »

i'm having trouble playing the higher notes. sometimes i can play them, but i can't hold them for that long when i do. also, i tend to sound very airy when i play my flute. what should i do? :(

First, Band_Geek is already taken so pick a new name!

To help with the higher notes, tighten up your lips and make it so that the when your blowing into your flute, the hole is smaller. Make sure your air stream is coming out fast so that it can hold the note up.

To help holding notes out longer, each time you practice, hold your notes out for as long as you can. Eventually, over time your endurance will build up and you will be able to hold the notes out longer.

If your flute is airy, check to make sure that your holding down all the keys to make sure nothing is leaking. If you have a open-holed flute, make sure those pads are in securely. Then, try rounding out your mouth when you play. Your lips shouldnt be in a straight line. Imagine you are kissing your thumb, and play the way your lips are positioned.
