Beginner Piccolo Music

Post by Xill »

I recently recived a Piccolo as a gift and I have started playing some music. I'm in 9th grade and its almost the end of the year so I dont plan on play it in school till next year. My question is what is some good music that I could play for piccolo over the summer. Should I just play some Flute music I have laying around or get some written for piccolo?

Piccolo! Piccolo! is a great method book to get you going. I think playing Bach on the piccolo is fun (maybe that's just me), though there are some great solos out there written for piccolo. Fluteworld has an extensive list of piccolo repertoire.

of course one of the most famous flute solos in america is the Stars and Stripes Forever piccolo solo...but it might be kind of tough. I am also looking for piccolo solo music.

Check Flute World for some piccolo solos by Isaacson, Christiansen (avoid Piccolo Espagnole for now, lol!), or Ricky Lombardo.
P.S. Stars & Stripes is certainly not an early-high-school endeavor!!! Develop some tonal control, good intonation, and a repository of alternate fingerings first. :D

The Piccolo Practice Book by Trevore Wye has excerpts, tips and such for picc. players.

One of the postings mentioned playing Bach on picc...indeed, Trevor Wye mentions playing baroque rep. on the picc is very helpful, esp. in the early stages. Vivaldi wrote some great picc. concertos that are fun to practice also.
