I'm sure everyone has a piece that is the bane of their existance, either one that they love the sound of and just can't for the life of them play it or one that they just DON'T GET what's the point of it so I pose the question:
WHAT PIECE IS THE BANE OF YOUR EXISTANCE?
pieces that I just CAN'T play:
March - D major - JS Bach (I started it in my second year when I was 7 and I STILL can't play it and I'm a music major in college for christ sakes)
Seranade - Hanson (spent like 3 months on it, CAN'T play it)
pieces I just don't get:
Concerto - Quantz
Suite Modale - Ernest Bloch (I'm sorry to tread on toes but I just don't understand what's the big deal)
Pieces that are the bane of your existance

Ya know, after the premiere of the Ibert, it was put away for many years, because it was considered nearly unplayable. It was pemiered by Marcel Moyse in 1934, and allegedly took a full year to learn. Ocassionally, the third movement was used as the Paris Conservatory test piece for flutists. I'll vote for the Carl Vine Sonata, and certainly the Liebermann Concerto. I think the Liebermann is playable, but is one of those pieces which is hard on every line of every page (for lots of pages LOL). The Prokofiev sonata's knocked out many a "pretty-good" player, too. I did on my college senior recital. Whew!
