OK..I am really embarrassed to ask this but..

How do I remove the plugs from an open hole flute??

It varies from plug to plug. if you have rubber plugs, just push them down into the body, and they will roll out the end. It you have hard plastic plugs, you have to use your nails to pry them up and out. So, between those two (and various other kinds like cork or silver with a rubber ring etc), you either just push them through, or pull them out.

note: if you have straubinger pads, you MUST pull the plug out (or push from underneath). If you push the plugs, it unseats the pad, and it will leak (a straubinger pad tech gave me this advice at a flute fair).

And I was actually able to play quite clearly after 30 years since the last time I touched a flute :wink:

lol. Just don't have too much fun with it. I had plastic plugs in my flute and when I was bored during band practice (very annoying) I played around, pushing them out etc. And I lost 2 of them!
