I know we've about beaten this horse to death, but I had one comment that I forgot to make pertaining to "off the beaten path" audition repertoire. I guess it will be in the eventual FAQ if I can ever get around to it. And this advice goes beyond just auditioning.
Have a flute alone piece in your back pocket at all times; one that you can pull out an a moment's notice. Examples include, but are certainly not limited to, Bozza Image, Syrinx (I know it's not off the beaten path, but shows shows so much about a flutist, especially if you can just do it from memory; very impressive to an audition committee, I think); Karg-Elert Sonate Appassionata, a Pagannini Caprice transcription, etc. (there are plenty of other alternatives, but you see my point, hopefully

Just a thought I wanted to pass along. It has helped me in the past, and hopefully will for others.
